Observations taken for Human genetics Survey Based Project

The students participating in Human Genetics - a Survey Based Project, are taking observations of various genetic traits.
This enabled them to undergo the observations of phenotypic characters prevailing in the school premises. It also enriched their learning experience through conducting the survey of different Genetic Traits:
Earlobes, White Forelock, Dimples,Thumb, Pinky, Mid Digit Hair & Red-Green Colour Blindness.

All these genetic traits are  hereditary:
  • In an organism there is a pair of factors that controls the appearance of a given characteristic. (We call them genes.)
  • The organism inherits these factors from its parents, one from each.
  • Each is transmitted from generation to generation as a discrete, unchanging unit.
  • If an organism has two unlike factors ( called as  alleles) for a characteristic, one may be expressed to the total exclusion of the other (dominant vs recessive).

The Data was collected analyzed and then compared with the participants all over the world.

Fifteen students from each section of class VIII were selected for the project. Each student took the observation of two students considering all the genetic traits in a performa provided to them. In all the observations of 120 students were taken for the session 2014-15.
